WEIR Quay Sailing Club's August dinghy races were held on Sunday, August 17 when a good sized fleet participated in the races that enjoyed the freshening  wind.  On a rising tide, the dinghies tacked towards the Cornish shore before the course lead the fleet to the up-river mark, then a long reach to the leeward mark. During the second race, the wind freshened, and a heavy rain squall led to some capsizes from novice and experienced crews alike, giving the rescue-boat some busy moments.  The club thanked everyone who turned up to race for what turned out to be a great day's sailing. Eight boats competed in two races over a period of two hours in a west, veering north-west wind F2 rising to F4 wind with the occasional strong gust. It was pleasing to see a number of newer members sailing in their first race. The club organisers thanked Nick Ferneyhough and Graham Reed for manning the safety boat, and to Patsy Bennett for wielding the stopwatch. Results as follows after two races: 1, Jo Coomber (Europe); 2, Steve and Aaron Kirby (Laser two); 3, Sophie Dandy (Pico); 4, Eleanor Eastman (Laser Radial); 5, Chris and Sue Coomber (Cornet Trio); 6, Gary Strong and Simon (Wayfarer. The next race is on Saturday, September 6.
