THE season is now well underway at Tavistock Golf Club and in the men's medal club captain John Harding started his year well with an excellent nett 68 cutting his handicap by two strokes down to six.  

Paul Crump was second with a nett 73 on count back from Matt Boon and Nigel Roberts. 

Andy Avens was first in division two with a nett 72, second Dan Pratley nett 73 and, in third place, Darren Sturman  nett 74. 

In the men's four ball better ball scoring the surprise of the day was the scoring of 25 twos on the par three holes — a new record for the club! 

The winning pair were Rob Lovell and Tin Nand-lal with 44 points, second Keith and Will Stenhouse 42pts on count back from Nigel Doidge and Jim Grant.  Mike Apps and Lester Francis scored 41pts beating Paul Crump and David Turnbull on count back. 

In the mens' Stableford Graham Ruth topped division one with 36pts, second Martin Channon 35pts, third was Paul Crump with 34 pts on count back from Shaun Kiely. 

In division two Danny Brockington had 38pts, second was Kevin Quick with 32pts on count back from Dennis Greening and Ian Nye. Steve Adams in division three had 36pts, second Tommy Rawlinson 35 pts and third was Lee Bartlett with 33pts on count back from Lewis Reid.

The ladies played the qualifying round in the Australian Spoons —winners were Mary Lyddon and Pat Pope with 34pts and runners up were Anne Dawson and Sally Hills with 31 pts. The regional final will be played at Honiton in July.

In the England Golf medal first was Gilly Jarvis with nett 77, second Kayleigh Cann with net 78 on count back from Wendy George.  

An England Golf medal was also played in conjunction with the Marilyn Allen Trophy played for by past lady captains which was won by June Kendall with a nett 77, runner up Elaine Cooper nett 84. 

The windy conditions did not make playing easy but first in division one was Wendy George with a superb nett 73.  Hilary Picton was second with nett 80, third was Kate Butler nett 81 on count back from Ruth Myott. Despite the wind the top three scores in division two were also good with Pat Wylie scoring a nett 76, Pat Pope nett 77 on count back from June Kendall.

The men veterans played their first round at Tavistock in the Emerton-Court Trophy beating Morthoe and Woolacombe four and a half to a half.
