Devon B

Tavistock v

TAVISTOCK welcomed South Devon to The Ring on a glorious day for a Devon League fixture.

South Devon won the toss and asked the home side to bat first on a good looking track. They were soon to regret this decision with openers Aaron Churchill 44 and Ian Gray 18 adding 60 inside seven overs for the first wicket.

After the first powerplay of nine overs, Tavistock were already on 74 runs. When Churchill fell, caught on the boundary, Sean Cleave was joined by Dave Manning. What followed was spectacular, with the ball flying to all parts of the ground from both batters. They matched each other stroke for stroke and both passed 50 in 42 and 38 balls; the race was on to see who would get to 100 first. Manning won that race, reaching his century in just 57 balls, eventually falling for a brilliant 119.

Cleave was bowled for an entertaining 91 off 66 balls. They shared a partnership of 190 in just 19 overs.

Shaun Daymond struck a quick 20 and duly declared the innings on 327 after only 38 of the allocated 45 overs. This is the highest that Tavistock have scored whilst most of this young team have played at The Ring.

In response, South African, Travis Muller was keen to demonstrate how he has adapted quickly to English conditions and he duly delivered. South Devon fell to 9-3 after five overs. Tim Pope and Richard Elderman enjoyed their first bowl of the season and duly delivered. Muller (3), Lee Baker, Pope, Elderman (2) and Cleave shared the wickets and there was a quite brilliant run out from Cleave.

South Devon were all out for 98 with Tavistock winning by 229 runs.
