KELLY College sent 12 swimmers up to the Ponds Forge ISC in Sheffield for the British Gas ASA National Age Group Swimming Championships last week — the most important event of the year for swimmers aged 11 years to 14 years.
Chloe Barrow, aged 14, at her first ever national in the 100m butterfly, qualified in a new personal best time of 62.80 seconds into the final in second position, where Chloe again did a personal best of 62.40 to claim the gold medal and the national title for 2013.
This time was also a Kelly College record for 14-year old girls. Chloe also broke another Kelly record in the 200m butterfly with a time of 2mins 21.94 secs when she swam into seventh place in the final.
Another finalist for Kelly College was Jake Bentley in the 400m freestyle. Jake did a personal best of 4.27.06 to place ninth in the final.
The girls 11-14 years medley relay team of Emily Cutler (backstroke), Christy Gold (breaststroke), Chloe Barrow (butterfly) and Cara Layden (freestyle) qualified ninth fastest for the final, where they put on a great show to move up to sixth overall.
Other Kelly swimmers who competed well at the national championships: Chloe Barrow, Jake Bentley, Emily Cutler, Christy Gold, Cara Layden, Thomas Brew, Taku Chaza, Robyn Edwards, Jemma Layden, Harry Turner, Georgia Martin and Ben Staig.
