THE magnificent sum of £12,000 for charity was raised by Tavistock Golf Club's captain Roy Friend during his year of office.
Over the years the club has raised thousands of pounds with each club captain choosing the charities he wants to support - this year the beneficaries were St Luke's Hospice and Muscular Dystrophy.
'My grateful thanks goes to Phil Gawman, Elaine Cooper, Janet Kiely and Pat Hoar.' said Roy, ' a great team who, through their efforts and hard work, helped to raise this marvellous sum of money. As usual the club members have shown their fantastic generosity by giving so much to these very worthwhile causes.'
In accepting his cheque for £6,000 Wayne Marshall, on behalf of St Luke's Hospice, expressed his thanks and said that it takes £6 million a year to keep the hospice going so this money was a very important contribution.
On behalf of Muscular Dystrophy Helen Phelps-Starbuck accepted the £6,000 cheque. Helen, who herself has MD, said that the money would go towards the annual holiday for local MD sufferers and thanked everyone for this most generous donation.
