Tamar League Cup
Whitchurch v Callington
WHITCHURCH played Callington in the Tamar Evening League Cup at Luckett. With many young and inexperienced players Whitchurch gave a strong Callington side a run for their money.
Batting first Callington posted a commanding 152. Shorten, not out 62, batted through the innings and was well supported by Holloway (33). The dangerous Libby fell to an outstanding catch by Tom Jackman. The bowling held together reasonably although Stokes (1-58) felt the brunt of the scramble for runs in the last few overs.
Hall (6) fell early in the reply but Ben Powell (20) and Steve Hodge (31) kept the game interesting. Batting well Josh Towl (16) and Rob Bone (24) showcased the up and coming talent within the club. In the end Whitchurch fell 19 runs short of the target.
n Whitchurch fixtures: on Saturday the first XI are at home to Upottery and the second XI are away to Bovey Tracey; on Sunday there is a friendly with Cockington Corinthians; the ladies are away to Torquay; on Tuesday in the TEL the club are away to Lewdown.
