TAVISTOCK Golf Club is now well into the golfing season.  The Palarait team in the first round of the trophy had a good home win against Wrangaton 3-2. The next round will be against Teignmouth at East Devon.  In the Plymouth Area League Tavistock also had a good 3-2 win against a strong Wrangaton team.  The ladies are also doing well.  In their second match in the Shelagh Creasey competition Tavistock halved a difficult match away at Churston.  Played in appalling weather, the Still Cup team won their home match against Royal North Devon 6.5 to a half. In the first round of the Doris Wills-Little Trophy, played at Holsworthy, Gilly Jarvis and Nicky Gawman had a one up win against Gt Torrington.  The juniors, in the first round of the Basil Steer Trophy at Staddon Heights, the team of Will Stenhouse, Arun Caines and Emma Greening defeated Thurleston 2 and 1. The next round will be against Stover.  In the men's three ball better ball open, 45 teams played in extremely windy conditions but the team from Elfordleigh came first with a great three under score of 139. In the men's Stableford Jim Whitehead was first in division one with 42 points, second Graham Ruth 40pts and third was Richard Smith with 37pts on count back from Mike Trembeth.  In division two with 36pts was Dan Cooper on countback from Danny Brockington, third was Harry Hopcroft 35pts on count back from Mike Samborne.  In the qualifying round of the Coronation Foursomes Carolyn Crawford and Jan Walls scored 38pts and will represent Tavistock in the regional final at Camedown Golf Club, Dorset, in July.  Runners up were Bridget Luckham and Bev Ruth.  There were excellent scores in the ladies' EG medal — Shirley Trevena had nett 73 on count back from Angela Trembeth.  Third was Carolyn Crawford nett 74 on countback from Sally Hills. In the Junior Adult Foursomes Tony and Will Ingram scored 36 pts to beat Callum Watkin and Alan Gawman on count back. In third place were Graham and Arun Caines with 35 pts.  In the Easter Sunday Stableford Will Stenhouse was first in division one with 38pts, second Myles Hodge on 29pts.  Thomas White in division two scored 35pts and in second place was Josh Lethbridge with 29pts.  In division three played over nine holes, Alicia Newland had 24pts and in second place Elise Williams with 18pts.  In division five, also played over nine holes, Samuel Lawrence scored 22pts , second Tayden Williams with 21pts. PGA professional Simon Invest, who runs the Junior Academy said, 'I am delighted that so many of the juniors are playing well so soon.  They played off the red tees and Alicia made a three on the par three seventh hole  and a five on the par four 17th.  'Elise did very well in her first game off the red tees to score 18pts and both Samuel and Tayden were four under and three respectively under their handicaps.'
