THE Burrator Horseshoe Run took place at the weekend with nearly 200 people entering the event.

The seven mile run, which spanned the scenic landscape above Meavy village, attracted runners from as far as Lancashire and Hampshire as well as from Devon and Cornwall.

The winner, with a time of 41 minutes 1 second, was Arran Tocknell of Torbay AC.

Second place was Jim Cole, a previous winner in 41m 15s and Tim Lenton of Axe Valley Runners was third in 41m 49s.

First male veteran was Chris Eastaugh of Stannary H3 in 47m 30s.

First male junior for the second time was James Anderson in 44m 04s.

First local male, of Drake H3, was Justin Crew in 46m 23s.

The ladies' winner was Rebecca McMullin in 52m 31s, with Bonnie Collingborn in 54m 51s. Third lady was Emily Ackford of Plymouth AC in 55m 27s. Bonnie was also the first female vet and female local.

The first female junior was Emily Ackford.

Organisers of the event were particularly pleased to see such a range in the ages of entrants — 14 to 70 this year with some new juniors that are hoped to make a return to the event next year.

Kate Luffingham, organiser of the run, said: 'Many thanks to everyone who helped with the run — designing the T-shirt, the marshalling, scoring, checking, laying out and collecting in the markers, to The Royal Oak for refuelling the marshals at the end and particularly Zippy for thinking up this silly idea in the first place!

'So popular was the run this year that we had to turn people away — so please make sure you book ahead next year!'
