THE YELVERTON Bohemians had a successful weekend with all three of its teams winning their respective Devon Cricket League fixtures. Devon D Feniton v Yelverton firsts YELVERTON firsts registered their third win of the season and consolidated second place behind leaders Babbacombe with a 135 win at Feniton. Feniton won the toss and inserted the Bohemians on a wet wicket. This decision initially appeared to be a good one as Rob Grove was bowled without scoring. The second wicket pair of veteran Geoff Brain and Dave Scott got their heads down in a partnership of 97 off 21 overs to get the innings back on track. Brain was caught for a well played 61, and Scott followed soon after for 35. Skipper Rich West joined Ignatius McBride out in the middle and the pair added 70 in nine overs with McBride hitting 82 off 51 balls including eight sixes. West struck a brisk 27 as the Bohemians closed on 244 off their 45 overs. In reply, Yelverton's bowlers reduced the home team to 4–2, which soon became 45-4 and then 61-7 with Dom Rushton (1-11), Iain Cunningham (1-17), James Harrison (2-15), and Iggi Mcbride (1-16) all to the fore. Star bowler was skipper West who took 5-23 for 7.3 overs. After a brief eighth wicket recovery, the Feniton innings closed for 109 in the 34th over. n This week Yelverton are at home to Ashburton – 2pm start at Langton Park.
Devon seconds C Yelverton seconds v Kingsbridge seconds YELVERTON seconds secured a workmanlike 69 run victory over visitors Kingsbridge at Langton Park on Saturday. Having lost the toss, Yelverton were asked to bat first in overcast conditions. The openers found run scoring difficult against the new ball and skipper Gavin Jones was bowled for five. Steve Colmer was lbw without scoring and veteran Gerry Keen was spectacularly caught in the gully for four to make it 43-3. Anis Zubair joined Matt Tamsett at the wicket and the pair took the attack to the Kingsbridge bowlers, putting on 125 for the fourth wicket, before Tamsett was caught and bowled for a well-played 62. Veteran Chris Cottrell helped Zubair add a further 29 for the fifth wicket and when Cottrell fell for a run a ball on 20; Zubair added a further 44 with Ben Pearson (16) for the seventh wicket. Zubair reached as well deserved century before the overs ran out ending with an undefeated 106 out of the final total of 250-6 off 45 overs. Mark Edmonds with 2-33 was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors. In reply, Kingsbridge openers Dan Hardy and Vern Etoe got the visitors off to a 63 start, before Hardy was caught and bowled by the evergreen Tony Carter (1-41) for 32. A miserly spell of seven overs for 10 runs from 17 year old Ben Pearson slowed the scoring rate and with wickets falling at regular intervals to the bowling of Matt Tamsett (2-55), Cameron Dawe (2-35), Steve Colmer (2-7), Gavin Jones (2-0) and Chris Pearson (1-24) the runs dried up and Kingsbridge were bowled out for 181 in the 43rd over, to leave the home side winners by 69 runs.
