Devon E Kingskerswell v Bridestowe RETURNING Bridestowe captain Mark Butler lost the toss and the visitors were asked to bat first. Openers Sam Ewan and Tom Fogerty struggled, with the latter soon bowled by Lacey for four. Jack Hatton came to the crease and Ewen began to build a partnership manipulating the field and running some quick singles; just as they were looking settled Hatton was caught and the score was 47-2. Alex Jopling joined Sam Ewen but the latter was caught in the deep off Lacey (9-24-3). Phil Hatton was caught for four off Douglas and Bridestowe were 53-4, as James Ewan joined Jopling. Wheedon made the breakthrough in his first over as Jopling mishit a full toss and was easily caught at a short mid-off. With the score at 60-5 from 20 overs Bridestowe were in a bit of trouble. James Ewan was joined by brother Pat who took the attack to Wheedon (9-29-2) smashing him down the ground and through the covers for boundaries. Slow bowler Dingle perserved and had Pat Ewan caught for 90-6. C Hurrell took the ball and found the edge of both James Ewan and Mark Fogerty but neither was caught. The pair ran well and James Ewan punished them with ease, hitting numerous fours and a couple of sixes. Another six from James Ewan brought up his 50 but a couple of balls later he was gone, going for an impossible single and was run-out. With only five overs left Bridestowe were on 170. Chris Lavis tried to accelerate but was caught at wide long-off. Mark Butler came in and the fireworks started, hitting the returning Dingle (8-1-44-2) for 18 in an over. Mark Fogerty was run out in the penultimate over and with Butler on 33 not out the visitors reached a total of 215. Tom Fogerty and Chris Lavis opened up the bowling for Bridestowe but it was Lavis who had the breakthrough when Butt found Boother who took a sharp low catch at mid-on. Lavis had a second wicket with Lacey gloving it to James at second slip. Tom Fogerty also had a wicket as skipper C Hurrell sliced the ball up for a simple catch taken by Jopling. Shortly after Lavis had another, Etherington trying to find the boundary again but instead found Butler at cover. Wheedon and Douglas attacked the bowling, hitting anything full hard and straight down the ground. Wheedon dispatched Tom Fogerty (8-44-1) for two straight sixes. Lavis finished his great spell with figures of 9-28-3. Boother got the breakthrough having Douglas (12) caught by James at a close mid-wicket. Shortly after Jack had the important wicket of Wheedon (28), who was caught by Jopling hitting high in the air. Pethwick took to the crease but wickets continued to fall at the other end and brief resistance from R Hurrell and more solid hitting from Pethwick took the score to 100 before Sam Ewan took a good catch running round from mid-on off the bowling of Jack (3-21-3). Boother (3.5-16-3.) then ended the innings of Pethwick (29). Kingskerswell were out for 111 giving Bridestowe a 20 point win that had been set up by some superb batting from the middle and lower order.
