Devon B
Tavistock v Bradninch
TAVISTOCK entertained fast improving Bradninch on Saturday and inserted the opposition hoping to gain early successes. However, Walker and Acton put on 53 for the first wicket before Jamie Stephens bowled the former. This brought in Hardy who along with Acton set about the home bowling with relish; both batsman scored hundreds — it was a delight to watch from a neutral's point of view the best seen in The Ring this year.
In Tavistock's defence the bowling wasn't that bad and the ground fielding of the team was excellent but with lots of wickets in hand a big total was inevitable and 348-4 on a good wicket was comfortably obtained.
Tavistock knew this was a daunting task and sensibly they played for an accumulation of points rather than the win.
Dave Bull and Dom Scaglioni made a good start with 71 for the first wicket; Shaun Daymond and Dave Manning kept it going before a minor slump put the task in jeopardy.
Good work from Jamie and Josh Stephens and Jonty Newton kept the scoreboard going and Tavistock achieved their aim of maximum batting points closing at 238-9. Ross Acton followed up his 100 with 4-33 best of the bowlers.
