Western Counties West Torquay 57

Tavistock 24

TAVISTOCK rugby first team managed to salvage a bonus point with two late tries but were well beaten by the home side.

Tavistock made the early running and a good three quarter move resulted in a try for Henry Cunningham who went in at the corner. The visitors moved the ball around but frequent knock on's and free kicks saw them giving away possession too easily.

The home side then began to get their game together and ran in five tries before the break.

The second half started brightly for Tavistock and a penalty and lineout set up a drive for the line but they were held up. The home side then ran in two more tries from distance to put themselves out of sight.

Injuries meant that Tavistock had to reorganise but their heads did not go down and they kept plugging away. They then reduced the lead as drive for the line was halted but the ball was worked to Danny Luffman who rounded the defence to score under the posts. Rich Goldsby-West converted.

The home side responded with two more tries to put them more than the 50 point mark. Tavistock responded and following a quick tap penalty from Duncan Law, a ruck was set up five metres from the line.

The ball was then worked wide and Dan Oner, having moved from flanker out to the wing, outpaced the defence to touchdown. Goldsby-West then brilliantly drop kicked the conversion.

Tavistock now sensed they could get a four try bonus point and from the last play of the match Goldsby-West received the ball and burst through the defence to touchdown and then with the final kick of game convert his own try.
