YELVERTON made it seven wins from nine starts at the half-way point of the Devon D division season with a workmanlike five wicket win over bottom side Cockington.

After winning the toss and inserting the visitors, James Harrison (2-15) and Paul Shaw (1-30) reduced the visitors to 7-3 and were looking at a sub-100 total to chase.  They had not however banked on a superb innings from Scott Colegate coming in at five 5 who blasted 145 not out to see Cockington to 188-6 when the overs ran out.  Will Chapman chipped in with 2-38.

In reply, the Bohemians lost Will Chapman for a duck early on before Geoff Brain and Steve Luffman (41) put on 48 for the second wicket despite play being disrupted on several occasions by showers which forced the players from the middle.  There was a mid-innings wobble as three wickets were lost with the score on 53 as Luffman, Brain (9) and Mark Symes (0) all fell in quick succession.  Skipper Rich West and James Harrison stabilised the innings with a fifth wicket partnership of 71 before Harrison was bowled for 25 with the score on 124.  Dave Scott joined West in the middle and the pair put on an unbroken partnership of 66 for the sixth wicket with West undefeated on 79 and Scott on 9 when the target was reached off 30 overs.

This win gives Yelverton a 15 point lead at the top of the table going into the second half of the season.  This week they travel to play Honiton.

Yelverton seconds in Devon seconds C had their game with Barnstaple and Pilton called-off due to a soggy outfield in North Devon.  This was the fifth game cancelled or abandoned in nine fixtures this season.
