Devon D division Seaton v Yelverton firsts THE YELVERTON Bohemians consolidated second place in the division with their fifth win in six league starts, and trail leaders Babbacombe by six points. Another good fielding performance backed up by some miserly bowling helped to set up a five wicket victory for the Bohemians. Seaton were held to 150-9 off their 45 overs, with James Harrison (2-19 off nine overs), Iain Cunningham (2-14 off nine), Matt Tamsett (2-18 off nine) all kept things tight. Jason Gilbert bowled with pace and hostility to take 3-32 off his nine overs. Seaton's top score was S Perry with 35. In reply, Yelverton openers Matt Tamsett and Geoff Brain made slow progress against the home side's opening bowlers and Brain departed for 9 with the score on 28. Sam Parker joined Tamsett in the middle and the pair added 31 for the second wicket before Parker (12) and Ignatious McBride both departed with the score on 59, leaving the Bohemians innings wobbling slightly on 59-3. Skipper Rich West and Matt Tamsett added 22 for the next wicket, before West fell for 9. Dave Scott then added another 22 with Tamsett, but when he fell for 10 with the score on 103-5 the result was in some doubt. The in-form Anis Zubair joined Tamsett and the pair shared and unbroken 48 run partnership to see the Bohemians home for a five wicket victory, Tamsett carrying his bat for an unbeaten 58 and Zubair 29 not out at the end. The Bohemians gained 19 league points for the victory. n This week Yelverton firsts are home to Uplyme and Lyme Regis at Langton Park, starting at at 2pm.
Devon seconds C Yelverton seconds v Bideford seconds IN contrast to their first XI counterparts, Yelverton seconds went down to a 157 run defeat at home to Bideford seconds. On a hot and sunny afternoon, the Bideford batsmen rode their luck and racked up an imposing 361-3 off their 45 overs. The visiting side elected not to declare their innings and go for the two additional points on offer. Dan Cooper, aged 17, took the bowling honours for the home side taking two of the three wickets to fall. A chase of 362 runs was never likely, so the Bohemians second string opted for some batting practice and bonus points as they made 204-8 off their overs. Veteran Gerry Keen top scored with 32 for the home side. n This week, Yelverton seconds travel to the South Hams to take on second placed Ivybridge seconds at Filham Park, starting at 2pm.
Devon seconds E West Ipplepen thirds v Yelverton thirds At the idyllic location in the grounds of Cockington Court, Yelverton thirds played their match against table topping Ipplepen. Ipplepen won the toss and elected to bat first. The home side were dismissed for 185 off 40.5 overs with the wickets shared around between Ian Dawe (2-21), Ben Spear (3-21), Dan Farnham 3-46, Ben Paine (1-25) and James Casey (1-28) all to the fore. This was a fine display by the bowlers and in particular the young bowlers in the attack. In reply, the Bohemians fell short, finishing on 144-9 when the overs ran out. Brian Spear (27), 14 year-old Luke Julyan (20) and Gary Hutchins (23 not out) all made useful contributions.
