On Saturday, February 9, Bere Alston Trekkers (BATs) hung up their running kit to get together in Victoria Social Club in Bere Alston to hold their annual meeting and celebrate another year of great running.
Following the annual meeting, the BATs held their annual awards presentation. This started with the club awards followed by the BATs’ Grand Prix Awards.
Chair Martin Head started the presentation with the awards that are voted upon by members, presenting emale newcomer to Kelly Shaw, male newcomer to Jim Medhurst, female BAT of the year to Debbie Ashton, male BAT of the year to Shaun Hingston, and club member of the year to Andy Cowden, Julie Page and Martin Head.
This was followed by the coaches’ awards: improver of the year was Natasha Hingston and athlete of the year was Tanya Argue; the committee star awards were presented to Sam Harte-Latremouille and Dominika Nawalany; the chair’s award presented to Karin Kattenhorn and Hilary Head and finished with the Mingo Miles (most miles run by a BAT during 2018) presented to Debbie Ashton.
Next were the Grand Prix Awards, the BATs GrandPrix being a listing of 33 local events with bronze, silver, gold and platinum awards presented based upon the number of events completed from this list in club colours.
Presented by club secretary Karin Kattenhorn and chair Martin Head, bronze awards (for the completion of four events) were presented to: Sarah Bartlett, Hazel Bickley, Andy Cowden, Ralph Elmes, Gary Fielder, Heather French, Alison Greaves, Derek Hicks, Marcia Macey, Jim Medhurst, Frances Morgan, Julie Page, Melissa Pinfield, Ben Saul, Kelly Shaw and Murray Turner; silver awards (for the completion of eight events) were presented to Dave Adams, Pam Adams, Lisa Birch, Melanie Greaves, Fiona Maddock and Dominika Nawalany; a gold award (for the completion of 12 events) was presented to Paul Ashton and the platinum awards (for the completion of 16 events) were presented to Tanya Argue, Debbie Ashton, Samantha Harte-Latremouille, Hilary Head, Martin Head, Natasha Hingston and Shaun Hingston.
