The Burrator Horseshoe run was held at the weekend as part of the Meavy Oak Fair festivities. This challenging annual event involving seven miles of moorland running including a 700 feet ascent from Meavy to the top of Sheepstor was held in glorious sunshine allowing the runners to enjoy the moor at its best. This increasingly popular event attracted more than 180 runners of all ages and abilities and the climb up Sheepstor quickly stretched the field out with the more serious runners battling for the lead. The younger members of Tavistock Athletic Club took the main honours with U20 James Best coming home in first place in an impressive time of 40 minutes 51 seconds. This reflected James' growing experience and confidence as a fell runner. The next Tavistock runner to finish was James Anderson in overall ninth place and deservedly winning the junior male event in a time of 47.56. The first lady to finish was Sue Bint from the Tower Hamlets club in London who was visiting the area. Sue recorded an excellent run time of 50.01. First junior female to cross the line was Stannary Hash runner Carys Twyman in an impressive time of 65.27.
