FOUR pupils from Kelly Prep School were in the semi-finals of the National Biathlon Championships at Bath University Sports Centre.

The event consisted of a run of 500 metres and a swim of 50 metres in the 50 metre pool. 750 athletes competed at the same event in various age groups throughout the day.

The year 5 girls, Gabrielle Wardle and Flora Germon, were first to go on the track and ran superbly in windy conditions to produce personal bests – Gabrielle posted a 1 1 minute 45.82 seconds and Flora a 1.54.29. The year 6 boys, Archie Trevethan and Jacob Staig, ran an hour later in similar conditions, also posting PBs with 1.39.65 and 1.37.17 respectively.

The girls swam well in the 50 metre pool. Flora in a time of 42.68 secs and Gabrielle 37.22. Archie achieved the distance in 38.22 and Jacob in 38.45 —both PBs.

Overall, Flora finished 36th, Archie was 22nd, Jacob was 18th and Gabrielle 9th. These were really impressive performances throughout a very long day for the four of them but they worked hard and did themselves and Kelly Prep proud in both their attitude and their determination.
