SUNDAY was a tremendous day for the Tavistock Wheelers Cycling Club in so many ways when it in staged the second of the Brentor series road races. Riders came from all over the Westcountry.
There were plenty of compliments from the race officials and riders on how well organised the race was and how many willing helpers it had.
To cap it all the Tavistock Wheelers North Shore Gallery team had its best result ever in this standard of race (a 2/3/4 category at a pace of nearly 25 mph round 50 miles — 10 laps of the Brentor circuit.
The brutal pace put paid to Ben Kerwin's ride early on but Wheelers' Dan Strong, Jordan Channon and Huw Richards rode aggressively throughout the race, attacking and counter attacking against the best riders in the region.
On the final lap three riders managed to break off the front and steal a lead that could not quite be closed. However, Tavistock riders were leading the bunch behind, up the painful last climb.
In the end, Huw Richards took a fine seventh place and Jordan Channon 14th, which was enough to win the overall series junior prize.
