TAVISTOCK Athletic Club's Bret Bassett has just returned from New Zealand after representing GB in the World Triathlon Championships.

Two days after he arrived he competed in the World Junior Aquathon and a week later saw him racing with the best in the world in the Junior Sprint Distance Triathlon.

Bret was well placed in both events, fully deserving to wear a GB vest. This is all the more remarkable is the fact that three years ago Bret suffered a life-threatening head injury during a training cycle ride. He has worked incredibly hard to regain his former fitness and go beyond. He was also the winner of the Tavistock Athlete of the month trophy in September in recognition of his extraordinary achievement.
