A HANDFUL of Bere Alston Trekkers (Bats) took part in the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service Half Marathon last weekend.

The half marathon was a one-lap, multi terrain, undulating race and set within the grounds of the Lanhydrock estate. It starts with a loop around the beautiful woodland trails; the terrain underfoot was a combination of rocks, mud, puddles, tree roots and rabbit holes.

Going back around the front of the house runners gratefully received some encouragement from the small but hardy crowd before plunging once more into the woodland trails around Respryn and on to finish at the Dragon Leisure Centre in Bodmin.

First male Bat home was Laurence Sergeant and first lady Bat was Emma James.  Making her Bat vest debut for the club was Liz Brew, who ran a great event.

All of the Lanhydrock Bats were running as part of their training plan for the forthcoming Grizzly in two weeks and will see their penultimate training run at next week's Bideford Half marathon, with all events featuring in this year's Grand Prix series.
