MEMBERS of Bere Alston Trekkers (BATs) and Tavistock Athletics Club took part in last weekend's Hope 24 event. The Hope is a 24 hour five mile trail run relay for soloists and teams of 2, 3, 5 and 8, in male, female or mixed categories with all proceeds to Hope for Children Charity. The course was around Newnham Park in Plympton and consisted of some steep hills, muddy tracks littered with puddles, potholes and tree roots and some beautiful bluebell woods. Team members ran between two and five laps each in order to keep the clock running for 24 hours. The BAT teams were Pam's People — Pam Adams, Dave Adams, Sam Lake, Toby Rankin, Matthew Luckham, Leigh Cossey-Haggar, Phil King and Dotty King completed 28 laps. Brave Hearts — Mary Barratt; Tracyann Cole; Christine Le Flem; Paul Marshall; Samantha Marshall; Heather Smith; Mike Smith and Ann Woodhouse completed 26 laps as did Team BAT-A-TAC: Ann-Marie Chater; Gary Chater; Alen Guy; Derek Hicks and Kate Rogers. Solo runner Nathan Newton running for the BATs completed 85 miles. BATs also took part the Bideford 10K, a popular run between Bideford and Instow, returning alongside the River Torridge on the Tarka Trail. First BAT home was Sally Dunn who was also placed third in her group and the only male for the Bats this week was Alen Guy. Sophie Jury had a great run marking 12 months of racing.
