TWELVE Bere Alston Trekkers (BATs) took part in the Plym Valley Challenge last Sunday with great results.
This is a multi-terrain course over 8.2 miles which starts from Tor Bridge High in Estover. The course goes out to Plym Bridge Road and Wrigleys into the beautiful Plym Bridge woods where runners follow old tram tracks and logging tracks out to Hatshill Wood, below Bickleigh Village and then return along the river valley navigating two disused rail bridges. Runners then run along the old canal before going over Plym Bridge and then back into the woods and up the hill returning to Tor Bridge High.
First male Bat home was Nathan Newton and first lady was Sarah Morwood who had run the 44 mile classic quarter endurance event the day before. Bats were also placed with the ladies winning second and third place. This race also features as one of clubs grand prix events securing more points for all those taking part.
All Bats ran a great event and finished with good times.
n MORE than 400 ultra-marathon runners braved thunderstorms and scorching sunshine to take on 44 punishing miles of rough and rugged terrain in this year's Classic Quarter, pushing themselves to the limit while raising money for local charity Cornwall Hospice Care.
Second over the line was the women's solo winner, BAT Sarah Morwood, who broke the women's course record with her time of 7 hours 28 minutes. The BATs thank the support crew for this week's events to Laura, Isla, George, Alen and Joan Sparrow.
n A GOOD number of Bere Alston Trekkers (BATs) took part in The Burrator Horseshoe Run at the weekend. Some of them were taking part as part of their training for the forthcoming club trip.

First lady BAT home was Rebecca Mingo and first male was Laurence Sargeant with Janice Fuller running well to achieve a three minute personal best.
BATs will next be flying at the trail half and full marathon Wales this weekend which is this year's club trip.
