TEN members of Tavistock AC were among the 483 finishers of the Plymouth Hoe 10. The ten mile undulating course took runners from the start at Brickfields round the Hoe and Mount Wise, before climbing back to Brickfields for a lap of the athletics track to finish.

The winner, Shaun Antell from Bristol and West AC completed in 52minutes 33 seconds, and the first lady in 57.51. Rebecca Mingo, first TAC home, ran a storming race to finish only 11 minutes later – a truly excellent result.

Other notable performances were put in by David Twine, finishing third in his MV55 age-category, by Pete Bazley, fourth in the same group, and by Ann Woodhouse, who knocked more than 4 minutes off her 2011 time for the event.

n MEMBERS of Bere Alston Trekkers (Bats) also took part in the annual Plymouth Hoe 10 road rac The Hoe 10 is one of the events on the newly established Grand Prix for the club with points being earned by everyone taking part.

The Bats came home in — Paul Mingo 1.39.53, Becky Mingo 1.08.41 (running for Tavistock and achieving a PB), Rachel Wood 1.37.02, Pam Adams 1.36.27 and Dave Adams 1.18.48.

Last Sunday offered a lovely sunny morning for the runners taking part in the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service multi-terrain half marathon.  Starting at the Dragon Leisure Centre in Bodmin and running around the beautiful grounds and gardens of Lanhydrock House with dogs also welcome.  

The runners had a multi-terrain surface from road, track, woodland and back to road.  Included in the run were plenty of ups and downs, mud, bogs and some very tough hills!  This was a perfect training run for these Bats who are taking part in the tough 20 mile off-road Grizzly later in the month.

n TWO juniors runners and two senior men from Tavistock Athletic Club made the journey to the English national Cross country champs at Parliament Hill in London on Saturday. First to race was Sam Lane de Courtin in the U15 boys. With 366 runners in this race Sam came 40th and Jasmine Grey in the U13 girls she came 275.

The last race of the day was the senior men with 1,688 runners on the start line Tony Symons and Martin Exley took to the start line for the 12k race Tony finished 433th and Martin finished 574th.
