ON Sunday 19 Bere Alston Trekkers (BATs) travelled the short distance to Plasterdown to take part in Tavistock Athletic Club’s Tavy 7.

While all BATs ran well, the event marked a return to running after absences of between 18 months and more than two years for Janice Fuller, Sam Marshall and Jo Bourton.

The first BAT home was Andrew Bowden in a time of 52 minutes 29 seconds followed by David Adams 58.15, Andy Cowden 58.47, Martin Head 59.04, Emma Dooney 59.34, Phil King 1.00.21, Lisa Birch 1.00.33, Frances Morgan 1.04.54, Ralph Elmes 1.08.04, Janice Fuller 1.08.35, Hazel Bickley 1.12.14, Cally Barnes 1.12.15, Fiona Maddock 1.12.25, Sam Marshall 1.15.28, Hilary Head 1.21.18, Pam Adams 1.33.06, Jo Bourton 1.33.06, Murray Turner 1.33.06, and Ann Woodhouse 1.33.08.

Meanwhile, lone BAT Matthew Head took part in The Great South Run in Portsmouth.

The event prides itself as being a fast and flat course of the world’s leading ten mile running event, which takes participants through the iconic sights of Southsea and Portsmouth, including the Portsmouth historic dockyard, home of HMS Victory, past Spinnaker Tower, and finishes on the seafront with beautiful views of the Isle of Wight. In a field of 15,000 Matt finished in 174th place in a time of 1h 2min 54secs, a distance PB by more than two and a half minutes.
