STORM Brian did little to dampen the spirits of the Bere Alston Trekkers this weekend, racing on the coast and in-inland, by day and by night.

On Saturday night, solo lady BAT Heather French ventured out onto the rugged Cornish coast path, to take part in ‘The Tempest’ — a 10 mile headtorch trail race which lived up to it’s name.

Staged by Mudcrew, in conjunction with The Minack Theatre where the race started and finished, brave Heather battled winds gusting up to 60 mph and heavy showers in this put and back race to Land’s End, to finish her race in 2 hours 36 minutes 16 seconds. Heather then joined her fellow Trekkers who were out in force on Sunday in largely dry but windy conditions to support neighbouring Tavistock Athletics Club’s Tavy7 at Plaisterdown.

This ever popular Autumn race follows a wonderful course around seven miles of scenic and gently undulating Dartmoor lanes near Tavistock.

A team of 24 BATs took on the challenge, many of whom claimed a course PB. First over the line for the men was Chris Anthony in 50.31 followed by Andy Bowden 53.32, Martin Head 55.57 (PB), Dave Dencer 57.23, Andy Cowden 57.28 (PB), Shaun Hingston 1.13.47 and Trevor Ralph 1.16.32.

Julie Page was the first BAT lady in 1.00.26, followed by Alison Greaves (PB) and Fran Morgan 1.07.50, Su Williams 1.08.13, Hazel Bickley 1.09.13 (PB), Hilary Head 1.09.22 (PB), Tanya Argue 1.10.14, Melissa Pinfield 1.11.27, Kate Medhurst 1.11.45, Debbie Ashton 1.11.59, Natasha Hingston 1.13.03 (PB), Samantha Harte-Latremouille 1.14.18, Sarah Bartlett 1.15.22, Heather French 1.18.37 (PB), Mairi Milne 1.19.56, Eleanor Ralph 1.20.25, and Nikki Putt 1.23.03.
