FEWER athletes from Tavistock Athletic Club were taking on challenges in the last week, but there were some great performances nevertheless over several races.
On Sunday, Tony Shearer and Hazel Walker entered the second running of the 'Storm the Fort'- a 10k multi-terrain race organised by Storm Running in Plymouth.
The race began at Woodland Park with two laps over diverse terrain, finishing at Woodland Fort in Crownhill, Plymouth. On a surprisingly hot day, and spite of carrying an injury, Tony finished in 1hr 4min 36s and achieved 2nd place in his MV70 age category; Hazel finished soon after in 1:09:19.
Also on Sunday, Truro Running Club held their annual half marathon race. Starting from Lemon Quay, it comprises a loop of central Truro followed by a run out to Porth Lea and Cowlands.
Carole Walters was TAC's sole representative in the race, which had 517 finishers. She ran an excellent sub-2-hour race, finishing in 1:53:39 and winning her FV60 age category.
Earlier in the week, 16yr old Eldon Young was in 5k action again, just a week after breaking the club's senior male 5k record in Exeter.
This time he took on the last of the Yeovilton Summer 5k Series, another flat race course aimed at fast times and personal bests.
He didn't break his record this time but nevertheless was first junior and second overall in an amazing time of 15:31. Also in the race was TAC's Sam Larkham with another great achievement, taking 2nd place in his MV40 category with a time of 15:47.
