A DETERMINED band of athletes from Tavistock Athletic Club made the trip up to North Devon for the third of Bideford AAC's annual set of races - and came away with some noteworthy results, on Sunday, November 1.

Following the Bideford half marathon and 10k races earlier in the year, it was time for their ever-popular 10-miler - an unusual race distance that always attracts a large following.

This year, 774 runners completed the course which, as usual, starts and finishes near Bideford AAC's clubhouse and takes in both roads and the Tarka trail.

Six athletes from Tavistock Athletic Club took part, enjoying perfect weather conditions as well as superb views of the estuary during the run.

The first TAC runner home was Sam Hortropp in 12th overall position with a great time of 57min 9s. On his tail and also breaking the one-hour barrier was Grant Harvey in 59:53 - a personal best over the course for him and fifth in his MV40 age category.

Ian Collacott followed, gaining another personal best with a time of 1:02:55, and then Marc Curtis in 1:10:20.

The two TAC ladies taking part both did extremely well, gaining prizes in their age categories. Jenny Jeeves finished in 1:13:24, third FV55 runner, and Carole Walters, finishing in 1:20:04, achieved second FV65 place.

Just one week earlier, Mark West was the only TAC runner to take on the Eden Project half marathon. He ran a superb race, taking 13th place overall (out of 716 finishers) and winning his M50 age category with a time of 1:32:06.
