WITH the September weather becoming a little brisker, the same can be said for athletes from Tavistock Athletic Club who, after a very quiet August, took part in a plethora of races with some significant results.

In hot and windy conditions, three TAC runners (pictured) travelled up to Bridgwater to take part in their 10k race on Sunday. Caroline Steven ran a superb race, achieving overall second female (amongst 231 others), and winning her FV50 age category, with a time of 44min 25s. Sarah Holland finished in 51:33, taking second place in the same FV50 category. Kate Rogers completed in 1:07:18, the 7th FV60 finisher.

The annual Treggy 7 race also took place on Sunday - a circular 7-mile road race round Launceston with challenging climbs and a spectacular finish in the castle grounds, organised by Launceston Road Runners.

Five TAC runners took part and first to finish was Steve Cox in 59:43. Just a minute behind was Richard Nettleship in 1:00:55 and then Jenny Bryant in 1:01:45. Pete Bazley completed in 1:02:52 then Andy Kelly in 1:17:11.

Earlier in the week, the last race in the Armada Network's Summer 5k series took place in Saltram Park.

Sarah Holland was there too, the first TAC runner home in 25:19. She was followed by Matt Burns (27:25), Tony Shearer (30:19), Hazel Walker (31:53) and, also popping up again, Andy Kelly (32:58).

On Tuesday in Exeter, City Runs concluded their Run Exe 5k series with another fast, flat and very popular race round the Exwith Playing Fields and the River Exe Flood Relief.

TAC Juniors had an excellent evening led by MU16 runner Eldon Young who ran the race of his life to come first overall in a staggering time of 15:11 - a personal best that actually beat the Club's senior male record for the 5k distance.

Only seconds behind was fellow MU16 runner Freddie Whybrow who took 2nd place overall, finishing in 15:27. Sam Larkham finished in 16:16 and Sam Hortopp in 16:21.

Another MU16 runner, Arthur Norton finished in a great time of 16:28. Adam Holland returned to battle for a series place, crossing the line in 17:05 followed by Richard Drage in 19:28. The final TAC runner to finish, in the MU12 category was Oscar Norton, capping a very successful night for the juniors.

In the overall final standings in this six-race series, where the best four race results were counted, three club runners featured in the rankings.

Eldon Young won his MU16 age category, with three of his four runs timed at under 16min. Sam Larkham ran very consistently over the series to win his M40 category with all six of his race times ranging from 16:16 to 16:39. Adam Holland secured third place in his M25 category.

Last Sunday, Tavistock Run Project ran their Peter Tavy Plod race.

Held as part of the Peter Tavy Village Fair, this 5-mile off-road run takes place on moorland paths and bridleways. This was the 23rd event, with veteran club runner Pete Bazley said to have ran every one since 2004.

TAC's Jack Antony, a U18 runner, took second place overall in 31:45, with Charlotte Walker taking sixth place overall and first female, in 34:02.
