A STRONG Old Kelleian team, which consisted of many former captains, returned to face the Kelly 1st XI last Saturday, but the current crop's athleticism and enthusiasm weren't enough to avoid a 4-0 defeat.
The 1st XI always knew that this was going to be a tough game and regarded a fast start a priority. Both teams got off to promising starts though, with end to end action right from the whistle. It was Kate Eadie who made the difference for the Old Kelleians by scoring two goals, one from a short corner, to establish a promising lead by half time.
The second half continued in much the same vein with both teams trying to outdo each other. Excellent play came from the Kelly 1st XI with Amy Lloyd and Selina Kisby putting in superb individual displays. Recently named Vice Captain, Laura Nicholas, maintained organization and solidarity at the back, but this impressive performance was not enough to undo the experience of the returning Kelleians.
By the final whistle the score was 4-0. The 1st XI enjoyed the game and, despite the score line, the effort and enthusiasm was outstanding and bodes well for future games.
