TAVISTOCK Athletic Club's athlete of the month award has been presented to Paul Marshall and Ann Woodhouse this month.

Both athletes took part in the Virgin London Marathon this year. Due to injury, Ann (who competes in the FV 65+ age category) had not completed as many long training runs as she had planned, and struggled for the last few miles of the race, eventually finishing in just over six hours.

Paul ran an excellent race, being third club member home in 3 hours, 44 minutes. But when Ann turned into The Mall for the final push to the finish, it was Paul's wife Samantha she heard cheering her on – both Paul and Samantha had waited for more than two hours to be with Ann at the end of her race.

After continuous running for 26 miles, the urge to have some food, a hot shower and maybe a nap is overwhelming, so Paul's selfless thought for a fellow TAC runner is truly commendable. Ann is already planning to 'run London' again next year, raising money for her chosen charity.
