Carlsberg South West Peninsula division one East
Teignmouth 2
Okehampton Argyle 2
PRIOR to the game, Argyle manager Kevin Taylor had suggested to his players that it was about time they reproduced their home form on the road and they duly obliged with a gutsy performance that earned them a deserved share of the spoils against high flying Teignmouth at Coombe Valley.
On a heavy pitch Argyle went at their hosts from the start and in their first attack Jason Cordice raced onto Toby Gostling's through ball but was fouled on the edge of the penalty area. From the resulting free kick, Gostling curled the ball around the defensive wall and into the bottom corner to give Argyle the lead which they held comfortably until half time.
Teignmouth had only fashioned two clear cut chances in the opening 45 minutes; the first was well saved by Harry Geering and just before the break, James Williams cleared a Scott Telford header off the line.
Within five minutes of the restart Teignmouth were level when Hayden Roe was left unmarked at the near post to head home Matt Eaves' corner.
On the hour, Matt Eaves went from provider to scorer to give Teignmouth the lead when he latched onto a poor clearance from the Argyle defence and rifled a low shot from 25 yards through a crowd of players and past an unsighted Harry Geering into the far corner of the net.
Geering then produced a smart save from Sam Chapman to prevent Teignmouth increasing their lead and five minutes later the hosts were reduced to ten men when Hayden Roe was given a straight red card for swearing at the referee.
Argyle made full use of the man advantage as they went in search of an equaliser with Tallan Burns and Ed Squire probing down the flanks to create chances for Jason Cordice and substitute Ross Voaden. Chris Wills was unlucky when he found himself in space inside the Teignmouth penalty area but lifted his shot narrowly over the crossbar.
The equaliser came in the 85th minute when Ross Voaden rose at the far post to steer Toby Gostling's corner into the roof of the net and Voaden almost won it for Argyle in the final minute when he met Ed Squire's cut back but shot tamely at the Teignmouth keeper with the goal at his mercy.
In truth, a draw was nothing less than Argyle deserved for although Teignmouth were always lively on the break, Kevin Taylor's improving side had them pegged back in the closing stages and it was the home side who were hanging on come the final whistle.
That's only one defeat in five throughout November for Argyle and sees them climb to eighth place, their highest place in the League so far this season.
'The lads have shown the character to come from behind in three of those games, something that wouldn't have happened a few weeks ago,' said Taylor.
To make it a good day all round for the club, Argyle's seconds got back to winning ways in Devon and Exeter four with a comfortable 4-1 win against Bampton courtesy of a first half hat trick from Brad Ausden and another from Jonjo Fellows.
November winners (all £25) in the Argyle 200 club draw are: November 2, ticket number 97, C Bond; Nov 9, 188, J Ware; Nov 16, 9, J Kearon; Nov 23, 98, Mrs G Smith; Nov 30, 14, P Cunliffe.
