TAVISTOCK Squash and Racketball Club’s monthly competition in August was the quarterly handicapped knock out event.
With a good turnout the evening was set for some great squash, and some good banter. In the main final, Will Westlake managed to retain his trophy in a tough and close game against Richard Davies, while in the plate final Patrick Powell used his extra experience to come through against the improving Ed Smart.
As always there was lots of good squash for those watching to enjoy and it was another enjoyable evening at the club.
THE plate final of Tavistock Squash and Racketball Club’s annual John Jameson competition was played recently between David Handley and Simon Powell.
Simon got off to a great start, with Dave struggling to get going in the first game, which Simon won 15-6.
In the second, with Simon some way behind due to the handicapping, Dave managed to keet ahead for most of the game, but Simon finished the game strongly to come through 15-13 with Dave still making too many unforced errors.
The third game followed a similar pattern until close to the end when Dave started to find his touch. At 14 all it was anyone’s game, but following the best rallies of the match, Simon went on to win the game 18-16 and the match 3-0.
