DIVISION one of Okehampton and District Table Tennis league saw the Mixtures play Anchorage A.
Anchorage won the first games — Bob Davis beat Martin Rose and Malcolm beat Ivor Copley. Steve Tyler pulled one back for the Mixtures beating Colin Jones. Bob and Malcolm won the next two before Steve won his second singles against Malcolm. The next game Ivor took Colin to a fifth leg decider just losing out 11-13. Bob Davis completed a fine maximum for Anchorage. The Mixtures won the doubles for a 7-3 win for Anchorage.
The next match Academy played Okehampton A in a close match. Nick Jackson scored a fine maximum ably supported by John Squire with two singles, both in fifth leg deciders, beating Tom Pearce 11-4 and Ben Hill 11-7, both in the fifth. With the score 5-4 to Okehampton, Tom Pearce and Tom Pengelly beat Nick and John in the doubles for an honourable 5-5 draw.
Okehampton A then played Bridestowe — both teams could only field two players each. John Down beat both Francis Griffiths and Mark Tancock who lost his 100% record, Sarah Jackson just lost out to Francis 3-2. Bridestowe won the doubles for a 3-2 win.
In Division two, league leaders won their second 10-0 win against Okehampton B to put them 29 points ahead of second placed Anchorage B who have two games in hand so it could be a closer finish when the league is finished.
The next match Okehampton C played Horrabridge in a hard fought match. Okehampton C ran out 6-4 winners. Jill Northey had to fight all the way against Ben Bolton, winning 3-2. In his second singles Ben again lost out in five legs against Dan Bashford 3-2. Frank Cockburn scored his fifth maximum of the season ably supported by Richard Rose. John Stewart won two singles for Horrabridge. His second against Richard 2-2. After the singles Okehampton were 5-4 ahead. Frank and Richard won the doubles against Dan and John for a 6-4 win for Okehampton C.
The last division two match saw Anchorage B at home to Moretonhampstead who could only field two. Players from Anchorage raced in to a 7-0 lead before Graham Adnitt pulled one back for Moretonhampstead against Roger Gilbert. Anchorage lost in the doubles. Both teams fought hard in an enjoyable game which resulted in an 8-2 win to Anchorage.
