ENTRIES have come flooding in for the Town Relays and Fun Run, part of Lions Carnival Week on Thursday, July 16.

One local athletic club Bere Alston Trekkers have entered nine teams for the main relay — but they are not by any means the biggest entry so far which goes to Tamar Trotters with eleven teams.

Race sponsors PCC Office Supplies' spokesman Robert Oxborough said: 'We've had a marvellous response to the event so far but there are still some places left for sports clubs, business teams and junior teams.

'I've even entered a team from PCC Office Supplies and will run myself, to take on all comers from local businesses.'

Martin Exley-Deane, organiser, said: 'Last year the event raised over £1,100 for the Lions charities and the goal was to exceed that for 2015. The very simple relay race requires teams of four to run a 1.1mile relay loop of the Meadows park (starting and finishing at the Meadowlands pool).

'We're expecting loads of kids for the fun run which starts at 6.30pm in the Meadows. Local primary and secondary schools are entering the junior relays which follow and then the combined race of clubs, sports clubs and businesses will be at 7.30pm.

'We're expecting somewhere in the region of 600 runners throughout the evening who will all be helping Lions good causes just by entering and running.'
