AFTER four months of training, clocking up close to 500 miles of running, Andrew Alcock, a member of Tavistock Athletic Club heads to up to London in just under two weeks’ time, to take part in this year’s London Marathon.

Andrew is raising funds for St John Ambulance and so far has reached close to £3,500.

At the beginning of 2016, Andrew set himself a goal of raising £3,000 for the charity.

’I hung up my marathon running shoes two years ago, but have been dragged out of retirement to run another marathon and raise funds for this fantastic charity.’

’Everyone knows about the excellent emergency and first aid service that St John Ambulance provides for local sports and community events all over the UK.  SJA is always in the background, quietly working behind the scenes, helping to make so many events a success. Often taken for granted, St John Ambulance is very much part of the fabric of our lives in the UK.’

’I count myself lucky that I have never needed SJA’s help, but many have. This year, it is my turn to put something back for this fantastic charity!’

Andrew is delighted that he has exceeded his goal and there is still two weeks to go.

’Everyone has been so generous and I really appreciate all the support I have received from friends, colleagues, family as well as from business partners.

He has been training through the appalling winter months has been really hard work, but there is a silver lining. Andrew has lost close to two and half stone since training started but now needs a new wardrobe, as his suits no longer fit!
