THE senior and masters members of Tavistock Swimming Club had great fun when they competed in the recent Devon Seniors and Masters Gala at Tiverton. They produced some good swims with the seniors winning 18 medals between them and the masters winning medals in every event that they competed in, giving a total of 35 medals.

Competing in the 15 – 16 years senior girls' age group for the first time was Chloe Marks who produced some strong swims, and achieved three top three places including a first place in the 200m freestyle. Cameron McGurk swam in six events in the boys 15 - 16 senior boys age group. He produced four first places and two second places with a superb personal best time in the 100m freestyle.

Harriet Edwards and Izzy Teague were competing in the senior girls 17 - 18 years age group. They achieved nine top three places between them, with Izzy winning both the 100m freestyle and butterfly. Harriet also gained a first place in the 100m IM.

The masters swimmers were determined not to be outdone and gained eight first places, six second places and two third places in their different age groups. Head coach James Lake won all his three events — 50m and 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle, while Yvonne Carpenter-Warren achieved three first places — also in 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle, he 50m Breaststroke and one second place. Kelly Rice also achieved a first place in the 50m freestyle.

Assistant coach Nathaniel Rookes also gained a first place in the 100m breaststroke, which was backed up with three second places in 50m breaststroke, 100m backstroke and IM, and two third places in his six events. Elise Beaumont, like Kelly, was competing at this gala for the first time and produced some excellent swims to achieve two second places in the 50m breaststroke and the 200m freestyle.

Well done to these nine swimmers for their great swims at this gala, which is very early in the swimming competitive season.
