Animal lovers and keen walkers alike are invited to lace up their boots for the return of Margaret Green Animal Rescue’s much-loved Sponsored Walkies event this spring.

Taking place on Sunday April 12, the annual 6-mile walk will begin and end at the charity’s Wingletang Rescue & Rehoming Centre near Tavistock (PL19 0LF).

The route will follow a scenic journey along the edge of Dartmoor National Park, taking in breathtaking views before looping back to the centre.

Whether you’re looking to take on a new challenge, meet fellow animal enthusiasts or simply enjoy some fresh air and exercise, the event offers the perfect opportunity to celebrate the great outdoors while supporting a worthy cause.

Margaret Green Animal Rescue provides a safe haven for animals who have become homeless due to changing circumstances, as well as those who have suffered neglect, mistreatment or abandonment. Every animal in their care is treated with kindness, compassion and respect.

The charity’s mission is to create a nurturing environment where animals can recover, rebuild trust and prepare for a loving new home. With a strong focus on welfare, each animal receives the highest standard of care, including nutrition, comfort and veterinary support.

Rehoming lies at the heart of the organisation’s work. Through a thoughtful and thorough process, the team carefully matches animals with suitable owners, helping to create lasting, positive relationships built around each animal’s needs.

As the charity receives no government funding, it relies entirely on the generosity of supporters to continue its vital work. By taking part in Sponsored Walkies, you will help raise essential funds and awareness for vulnerable animals in need of a second chance.

The walk will begin at 11am, with arrivals welcome from 10am. After crossing the finish line, you can enjoy well-earned tea, cakes and treats - perfect for resting tired feet (and paws) and celebrating your achievement.

There’s no need to pre-register - simply turn up on the day. Sponsorship forms can be downloaded in advance from the charity’s website or collected at the Wingletang centre.

Friends, family and four-legged companions are all encouraged to join you for what promises to be a fun-filled day of wagging tails, muddy paws and plenty of smiles - all in support of a fantastic cause.
