The countdown is on to Tavistock Carnival 2026, with organisers promising a packed week of entertainment, music and family fun leading up to this year's spectacular Carnival Procession.

Festivities begin on Saturday, 11th July, with the popular Tavy Fringe Music Festival, featuring live performances at venues across the town, including Bedford Square, the Guildhall Car Park, Butchers' Hall and the West Devon Club.

On Sunday, Tavistock Lions Club will host its traditional Fun Day in the Meadows, with attractions including a dog show, live music, a barbecue, sporting demonstrations and children's entertainment, featuring Punch and Judy and bouncy castles.

The ever-popular Pavement Artists' Competition returns to Brook Street on Tuesday evening, while a new addition to Carnival Week, Music Bingo, will take place at the Red and Black Club from 7.30pm.

Music lovers can look forward to Wednesday's annual Concert in the Church, featuring Stannary Brass and special guests, the Levowan Chamber Choir. On Thursday, Tavistock Athletic Club's annual Town Relay Races will take place in the Meadows, while a pétanque tournament behind the Sensory Garden starts at 6pm.

Friday sees local traders compete in a skittles match before Saturday's programme includes a Gift Market in the Guildhall Car Park, organised by Miss Ivy Events, and a challenging 38-mile cycle ride to Saltram House and back, organised by Tavistock Wheelers.

The highlight of the celebrations will be the Carnival Procession on Sunday at 4pm. Following the success of the rescheduled Sunday parade in 2023, organisers have adopted the day and earlier start time as the procession's permanent slot.
