Get Winter-Ready with Reco Energy
With the energy price cap rising and household budgets under pressure, many homeowners are considering alternatives to traditional heating. Reco Energy, your local renewable energy installer serving Devon and Cornwall, can help you understand whether a heat pump is right for your property.
Air source heat pumps capture warmth from outside air, even in cold weather, to provide heating and hot water. By moving heat rather than generating it directly, they can deliver several units of heat for each unit of electricity used.
The Government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme currently offers £7,500 towards an eligible air source heat pump installation. Qualifying properties replacing oil or LPG heating, without a mains gas connection, can receive £9,000 until 31 March 2027. The grant is not means-tested. As an MCS-certified installer, Reco checks eligibility, handles the application and deducts the grant from your installation price.
The process includes a detailed, room-by-room heat loss survey, assessing your property’s construction, insulation, windows and room sizes. This establishes how much heat each room needs and allows us to select an appropriately sized heat pump.
We assess existing radiators and pipework. Some properties benefit from larger radiators or upgraded pipes so the system can heat effectively at lower water temperatures. A suitable hot water cylinder, electrical upgrades and space for the outdoor unit may be needed. We explain the recommended work and provide a clear quotation before installation.
A well-designed heat pump could reduce running costs compared with oil or LPG, and offer substantial savings against direct electric heating. Actual savings depend on fuel prices, your electricity tariff, existing heating efficiency and system performance. Reco provides estimated running costs tailored to your home.
Having installed hundreds of heat pumps locally, Reco brings extensive practical experience to every project. With customers’ permission, we can arrange visits to existing installations so you can see a heat pump in action and hear about their experience.
Would a heat pump work in your property? Reco Energy can provide a free quotation and impartial advice on air source heat pumps, solar panels and battery storage. We can discuss your needs, explore the available grant and explain how these technologies could work together to reduce your energy bills.

MOOR SWEEP – KEEPING YOUR FIRES BURNING BRIGHT AND YOUR HOMES COSY ALL WINTER LONG!
Don’t wait to fill your tank this winter with Moorland Fuels

As the nights draw in, Okehampton-based Moorland Fuels is urging Devon households that rely on heating oil to order early this winter and not hold off in the hope that prices will fall.
Heating oil prices rose sharply earlier this year after conflict in the Middle East pushed up wholesale costs, and they remain high. Many families have understandably held off ordering, hoping prices will drop. Industry body UKIFDA estimates heating oil sales are down by 20 to 30 per cent since the conflict began, leaving many tanks low as winter arrives.
Abby Turner, Director at Moorland Fuels, said: “Nobody can predict where world markets will go, so waiting for the price to fall is a gamble. What we do know is that when the cold weather comes, demand rises quickly, and getting tankers down narrow, icy country lanes takes longer. Running low in a cold snap is the last thing anyone wants.”
Moorland Fuels is backing UKIFDA’s advice to keep at least 500 litres in your tank, which is enough to last an average home just over 50 days. That gives a buffer against bad weather, delivery delays and supply issues.
To make this more affordable, Moorland Fuels lets Direct Debit customers and those of State Pension age order as little as 300 litres. Smaller, regular top-ups help keep tank levels healthy without one large winter bill.
Its Cosy Heating Club lets customers spread the cost across the year with monthly payments. Members also get priority five-day delivery and a free tank inspection with every delivery. The company’s free Cold Weather Priority Service puts over-75s and those medically vulnerable to the cold first when demand is high.
“Our message is simple: check your tank, order in good time and talk to us,” added Abby. “If you’re worried about the cost, we’ll help you find an option that works. And if you’re struggling, your local council may be able to help through its Crisis and Resilience Fund.”
Moorland Fuels, which became employee-owned in 2022, has supplied homes, farms and businesses across the region for more than 20 years. Find out more at www.moorlandfuels.co.uk.
