THERE were crafts, gifts and clothes galore on offer at the Meadows Makeover team's recent Christmas fair.

The team, which is raising funds to update the play park in Tavistock's Meadows, welcomed people to the fair in the Methodist Church Hall to buy a range of second hand children's clothes, shoes and toys, and crafts, cards, candles, jewellery and many other wares.

Also at the fair, the team held a 'bake-off' where visitors brought home-made festive goodies such as mince pies, pastries and cakes, which were judged by Buster from Cakes, Bakes and Shakes and Mia Holman from the Meadows Makeover team.

Mia said: 'We were very grateful to everyone who entered and supported us at the event. A lady called Caroline won the overall prize in the bake-off for her snowmen biscuits and reindeer cupcakes. She won a hamper that was made and donated by the Meadows Makeover team.'

The event raised £514, which will be put towards the team's target of £12,000 to buy a zip wire for the park.

The team has a number of other events lined up in the run up to Christmas, including a giant children's Christmas party on December 23.

The party, being held in Tavistock Town Hall will run from 11am to 1pm for children aged from six months up to pre-school age, and from 3pm to 5pm for children aged four to eleven.

The party will include a glorious grotto, free face painting and a variety of entertainment.

Tickets, available from Play Planet, are £7 per child, £5 per sibling and free for adults.

The ticket includes lunch or dinner and a gift from Father Christmas.

Unfortunately the 80's night, planned for December 14, has been postponed until the new year.
