WORK is due to begin next week on road safety improvements in Yelverton.
Residents have been pressing for some time for a zebra crossing from the Briar Tor estate, enabling them to cross the road and get to the shops, dentists, doctors? surgery and other community facilities in safety.
New footpaths are also part of the safety scheme.
The campaign to have the zebra crossing installed in Dousland road has been a partnership between residents and West Devon Homes, landowners Maristow Estates, Dartmoor National Park, Buckland Parish Council and the county councillor for the area, Gretta Madigan.
Cllr Madigan said: ?I am delighted this project is going ahead.
?Like everywhere else, the traffic on this road has increased considerably since the Briar Tor estate was built.
?The paths and crossing will make it much easier to go to the shops or to the pub!?
The project has taken longer to achieve than normal, because the paths crossed common land and permission needed to be obtained from DEFRA.
Work is due to begin on March 8 and is likely to take around a month to complete.
