Devon and Exeter Senior three South Zeal United 6 Motel & Offwell 3 AFTER two very disappointing home cup defeats Zeal?s manager Reg Wonnacott changed the formation for Saturday?s home league fixture against Motel and the team responded well to record their second win of the season. Zeal started well playing some excellent football and it was no surprise when Scott Hooper finished well after a great through ball by Redd Cann. The second goal was set up by Steve Pillivant who broke down the left and hit in a low cross for Jerry Stephens to finish from close range. It seemed that Zeal could score every time they attacked, however a disputed penalty decision after 30 minutes put the visitors back in the game and the teams turned round for the second half with Zeal 2-1 up. Zeal struggled to keep the ball in the second half and the visitors were putting the home side under pressure. But Zeal went 3-1 up when Harley Cann latched onto a through ball from Roger White and after outstripping Motel?s defence Harley rounded the keeper to finish well from close range. United were still living dangerously and the visitors reduced the deficit to one when they scored from a corner and should have drawn level from the penalty spot but a great save from Adam Cann in the Zeal goal kept the home side in front. In the last 20 minutes the game got stretched and Zeal?s quick forwards ran riot as Darren Gilbert, Jerry Stephens and Ben Davey each scored to put Zeal 6-2 up. The visitors scored their third goal five minutes from time, too late to stop Zeal recording a much needed win. l Next week South Zeal United are away to Pinhoe, kick off at 3pm.
