Devon intermediate cup round three

South Zeal Utd 3

Priory 2

SOUTH Zeal had an unfamiliar line up on Saturday in this cup clash. Due to injury and suspension Reg Wonnacott was forced to move from defence and lead the Zeal attack and Halliday came into midfield to replace White.

In the first half the game was fairly even with Collins in the Zeal goal making some great saves, but Zeal went into the second half two goals up through Smith and Hiscock — it could have been three if a goalbound header from Wonnacott had not struck Hiscock and rebounded to safety.

Priory had played well and Zeal knew they needed another goal to make the game safe. It duly arrived when Smith converted for his second goal after some good Zeal pressure.

Priory are a big side and were causing Zeal problems with any dead ball situation and both goals came from winning headers in the Zeal goal area.

Zeal were under severe pressure in the final 15 minutes and pulled Wonnacott back to help contain the tall Priory attack.

Zeal held on and could have made the game safe when Vile broke down the left but his shot just went wide of the far post.

Man of the match: Cleave Collins.
