Devon and Exeter senior three South Zeal Utd 4 Uplowman 0 A STRONG wind blowing down the length of the pitch was always going to be a factor and Uplowman decided to defend against it in the first half so it was up to Zeal to use their early advantage and try and get a lead that would be good enough to hold onto in the second half. As expected the home side had most of the play in this first period but as in previous weeks chances would not go in the net and they were disappointed when an appeal for a challenge in the area on Redd Cann was turned down. The deadlock was broken by Zeal after 25 minutes when Darren Gilbert broke down the right and his cross was passed to Scott Hooper by Roger White and Scott finished well from close range. Ten minutes later Scott put the home side two up when Adam Cann, Zeal?s keeper, used the wind to drop kick a high long ball that went over the Uplowman defence, Scott out stripped the visitors defence and headed over the Uplowman?s keeper from 12 yards. Two up at half time it was always going to be a tough half for the home side; however the Zeal defence, with Tom Reilly and Garry Smith dominant, were tremendous and after holding the visitors at bay for 30 minutes a good move instigated by Lee Gilbert resulted in Harley Cann finishing with a curling shot to put Zeal three up. The last 15 minutes saw more pressure from the visitors and two great saves by Adam Cann kept the home side three goals to the good but with five minutes left Jeremy Stephens was put through and he finished well from close range to give Zeal an emphatic win. l Next week South Zeal are away to Beacon Knights, kick-off 2.15 pm ? pick up in Okehampton 12.30pm.
