MANY hands tapped away at piano keys at Grantham Piano Services on Sunday week, as 40 children put on a unique concert, using only four pianos.

The piano shop in Yelverton squeezed the audience in to listen to the concert, which involved several children playing on the pianos at once and swapping to let others take over.

Janette Steuart from Grantham Piano Services said: 'The concert went really well — it was so busy we struggled to fit everyone in.

'The children played Twinkle Twinkle Little Star with each child playing different parts, and the older ones playing more complicated versions.

'At one point there were three children all playing on one piano, and eight hands playing across the four pianos. It was really fascinating.'

The concert was organised by the children's music teachers as part of the Suzuki learning method, which involves using memory and hearing to play a song rather than reading sheet music.

Mrs Steuart made piano shaped biscuits for the children and audience which she said went down well: 'The biscuits were a hit. They were gone in five minutes.'
