MARY Tavy Youth Club members had a surprise when they met recently.
Unknown to most of them their Youth Leaders David and Pat Woodhouse had invited a group of Austrian schoolchildren along.
The guests, from the Neuland Grammar School in Vienna, were on a 10-day residential outdoor pursuits and English course at Moorland Hall.
They entertained their hosts with a short but engaging look at apsects of culture in their homeland.
Some of the group wore their colourful traditional costumes, and began proceedings with their school song ? an upbeat number delivered in the English language.
There followed examples of traditional and modern dances and a guided tour of the nine provinces of the Federal Republic of Austria ? highlighting some of the more interesting cultural, historical and economics aspects of each region in turn.
The 12 and 13 year old visitors were most impressed by their warm welcome which capped a thoroughly interesting visit to Dartmoor.
