IT'S never too late to learn new things, which is why Okehampton Library is hosting a Silver Surfers' Day tomorrow (Friday).

The event aims to help older people learn basic IT skills such as mastering the mouse, sending an email and filling in an online form.

The Silver Surfers' Day is being held as part of Adult Learners' Week, which promotes education and training for adults, encouraging thousands of people whatever their age or background, to give learning a go.

It also provides access to information and guidance and motivates more adults to participate in learning opportunities.

Cllr Stuart Barker, cabinet member with responsibility for adult community learning, said: 'Adult Learners Week is a celebration of everything that adults bring to their learning and we're pleased that Devon County Council's libraries can support such a valuable campaign.

'Whether you want to gain new skills or qualifications, or learn more about a subject you are interested in, Devon County Council's libraries are an excellent first stop to finding out what's available.

'I would encourage everyone to visit their library during Adult Learners' Week and see what's on offer.'

Residents can book a one-hour computer taster session with one to one help from a member of library staff.

Silver Surfers' Day takes place tomorrow (Friday) from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

The day is free, although booking is essential. To book a place call Okehampton Library on 01837 52805.
