PEOPLE in Tavistock are being urged to take advantage of the Leap Year — and help beat cancer. Cancer Research UK is hoping to seize the opportunity provided by the 'extra day' on February 29 with the launch of a one-off campaign called Make Today Count. Suggested ways of raising money include hosting a breakfast or dinner fundraising party, making a donation via the Make Today Count website, popping into one of the Cancer Research UK shops to buy a special Make Today Count pin badge for a suggested donation of £1 or getting together with work colleagues for an office quiz, or job swap with the boss. Chris Babb, the area's volunteer manager, said: 'February 29 provides us all with extra time and we want people to do something worthwhile. 'With more than a quarter of a million people being diagnosed with cancer each year in the UK, it has never been more important for the people of Tavistock to join together to beat the disease.'
