CAMPING, climbing, kayaking and canoeing were just some of the adventurous activities on offer for prospective students at Duchy College in East Cornwall last week. The group of 16 participants, adults and teenagers, camped on Dartmoor, experienced the dizzy heights of the climbing tower at the college's Stoke Climsland campus and learned basic kayaking and canoeing techniques at Alder Lake at Lewdown. Organiser John Seers said: 'The purpose of this weekend was to open up doors for people, to see what career opportunities exist and what courses are on offer. 'The main idea is for participants to have a complete look at the outdoors industry and experience a taster of outdoor adventurous activities. 'They have now had a complete briefing on possible job opportunities and how to train towards them, and they have all thoroughly enjoyed themselves.' College principal John Latham said: 'It is important young people make the right decisions about vocational training options. 'The outdoor careers weekend provides participants with an experience outside the classroom and gives them a real feel for the type of training they might expect, helping them decide what is right for them.'
