HATHERLEIGH Rotary Club Junior Youth Speaks Competition was hosted by Shebbear College recently. Shebbear juniors entered two teams. One team, comprising Elizabeth Tennant (chair), Francesca Stevens (main speaker), and Emily Dunn (proposer of thanks), spoke about Jacqueline Wilson and her books. The second team, comprised of Tristan Medlicott (chair), Megan Foster (main speaker) and Madeleine Burnard (proposer of thanks), spoke of the possibility that all boys and parents are, in fact, Aliens. The whole competition was of a very high standard and both teams performed very well. After a tense wait the judges awarded team one third place and the second team first place. A spokesman for Shebbear college said: 'It is an extremely worthwhile competition and all the teams who entered rose to the challenge of public speaking before a large audience.'
